Many of my clients tell me they are waiting to do something until they feel better, more confident, thinner (always women), richer, ‘in a better place,’ and so on…They are waiting to tell someone, ‘I love you’ the next time. Don’t wait.
We are only guaranteed this moment. In the next, your world as you know it could be gone. All it takes is a devastating phone call, a crash, or lying on a stretcher in the ER to realize how little control we possess over the future. If you are one of the few to whom this has never happened, consider yourself blessed. But your time may come.
There is an illusion/delusion that if we are careful and conscientious, then bad things can be prevented from happening. The rationalization is that tragedies happen, but mostly to other people who didn’t live right, the risk takers. The only preparation I know for the cataclysms in life is to do what has only been imagined, say what is felt but unspoken, and feel as if you were thriving. Do them all as quickly as possible. Don’t wait.
